Digitalisation of the labour market

Musidłowska M., Wawrzyniak B. (2023). Digitisation of the labour market. Training module developed within the project “Initiating activities implementing the Framework Agreement of European Social Partners on Digitisation”. Co-funded by the European Union.

A manual created for the implementation of the project “Initiating activities to implement the European Social Partners Framework Agreement on Digitalisation (EFAD)”, co-financed by the European Union.

In accordance with the European document “Initiating Activities to Implement the European Social Partners Framework Agreement on Digitalization (EFAD),” signed on June 22, 2020, the project seeks to ready social partners for the dynamic shifts in the labour market induced by digital transformation. This encompasses automation, development of new business models, increased popularity of remote work, and adoption of innovative management methods.

With a focus on knowledge sharing and raising awareness, the project involves delivering training materials and conducting international workshops for trade unions and employers’ organisations. The “Digitization of the Labour Market” manual serves as the foundation for these workshops and as a resource supporting participants during training. Additionally, it aims to ensure the project’s sustainability by disseminating the handbook and its contents within the represented organisations.

The manual is structured into three sections. The first explores how digitalisation enhances work processes through automation and AI. The second, central to the project, delves into well-being and work-life balance in the digital era, especially in the context of remote work and the right to disconnect. The third section addresses the broader impact of digitalisation on the labour market, covering future workforce competences, the influence of new business models, and potential discrimination issues arising from digitalisation.

The publication comprises an examination of existing EU legislation and policies on the subject, along with showcasing both positive and negative practices in employment from diverse Member States. In addition to theoretical content (which explains concepts, phenomena, or regulations), the manual features real-life cases and short tasks that prompt recipients to engage in critical thinking and reflect on their rights in the digital era.

Publication available in Polish language version.
