We are pleased to announce that Instrat Foundation team has a new analyst on board – Aleksander Szpor has been appointed Head of the Just Transition research program as of the beginning of June.
Aleksander has several years of experience working in government administration and think tanks. Previously he worked as Head of the Climate and Energy Team at the Polish Economic Institute, and earlier at the Institute of Structural Research as an analyst and project coordinator. He is an author and co-author of publications related to energy transition, in particular just transition in coal regions, energy poverty, coal and lignite mining, and hydrogen economy.
He is a graduate of political science at Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University and the College of Europe in Natolin. Over the past years, he has coordinated and implemented projects in cooperation with ministries, local governments, European Commission institutions and leading universities and research centers across Europe.
He says the following about joining the think-tank: Coal regions in Poland face the challenge of structural change of the economic model based so far on fossil fuels. Technological change and transition from fossil fuels to RES will not always be the most difficult process – the key is a socially acceptable economic transformation providing sustainable jobs – comments Aleksander Szpor.
Michał Hetmanski, President of the board at Instrat comments on the development of the Just Transition research program – Poland, like no other country in Europe, is experiencing an accumulation of environmental, social and economic problems in coal regions in six Polish voivodships. It is not only a challenge but also a chance for us to transform the solutions developed in Poland into good practices and share them with partners from other countries, where moving away from fossil fuels (coal, gas) will also force structural changes in the economy – says the expert.
