Using an updated PyPSA-PL model, Instrat experts have investigated the potential development paths for renewable energy sources in Poland until 2030. The current scenario of the Polish Transmission System Operator (PSE) and the government’s still unofficial energy policy update project a roughly 50% share of RES in meeting electricity demand by the end of the decade. However, Instrat’s report reveals that pursuing even higher ambitions for RES development is not only achievable but also beneficial. By increasing RES investments, Poland could realise substantial savings on natural gas purchases, CO2 emission allowances, and electricity imports.
