Wojciech Żelisko, an analyst in the Energy & Climate programme, represented the Instrat Foundation during the launch of the Black Sea Renewable Energy Coalition (BSREC) on the 13th of June 2023 in Sofia.
The event was held by the Center for the Study of Democracy (CSD) from Bulgaria, whose experts were joined by Lilyana Pavlova, Vice-President of the European Investment Bank, Moritz Seiler, Head of the Economic Section, Embassy of Germany to Bulgaria, Cristina Simioli, Programme Manager of Offshore Energy and Nature at Renewable Grid Initiative, Ana-Maria Seman, Regional Climate Lead of World Wildlife Fund CEE, Assoc. Prof. Nikolay Valchev, Director of the Institute of Oceanology, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, George Visan, Director of the Energy Market Division at Transelectrica, the Romanian Transmission System Operator, Liviu Gavrila, Vice-President of the Wind Energy Association, Romania and Veli Bilgihan Yaşacan, Vice President of the Black Sea Offshore Energy Federation.
The goal of the BSREC is to facilitate knowledge exchange and collaboration between involved stakeholders in the pursuit of developing the offshore wind energy sector in the Black Sea in line with broader economic, social and environmental factors. The BSREC is an output of the BlueCEE project, in which the Instrat Foundation, along with the CSD, the Energy Policy Group from Romania, and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture from University of Zagreb, is working towards unlocking the offshore energy potential in the respective countries.
